Happy Emancipation Day
In honor of the holiday, I was inspired to wear this particular Martin Family reunion t-shirt which reads:
“If we have each other. We have everything.”
When reflecting on this statement, I think about my ancestors’ will to keep living while in bondage. I also think about financial freedom. For centuries, Black people have been denied access to opportunities to accumulate wealth. Because of this, Black wealth is often viewed as novel and only reserved for a select few. This belief system must stop.
There were Black millionaires long before sports and entertainment became prominent wealth-building industries for Black professionals in the United States. Plus, there’s still plenty of money in the world for new wealth to be made. Now, let’s work together and receive the abundance God has destined for us.
